WHAT IS MICRONEEDLING WITH SKINPEN®?

Microneedling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy, is a minimally-invasive skin rejuvenation procedure where a licensed medical professional uses a special device to create thousands of precise micro-injuries or “micro-channels” in the dermis of the skin to stimulate new collagen and elastin formation. This helps to minimize the signs of aging, improve the appearance of acne scars, and leads to a fresher skin appearance.

The SkinPen is the only FDA-cleared medical grade microneedling device. The SkinPen allows your practitioner to make uniform micro injuries using disposable needles with adjustable length to accommodate to a variety of skin types. The benefit of SkinPen is that it is more effective and safer than traditional microneedling devices such as dermal rollers.

Microneedling with SkinPen is great for:

• Improving Skin elasticity and firmness
• Evening out skin tone and texture
• Treating acne scars
• Reduce wrinkles, fine lines, pore size and sun/age spots

Microneedling FAQ’S

How does Microneedling with SkinPen® work?

SkinPen® works by creating a series of hundreds of microscopic channels into the dermis to stimulate the skin’s natural production of new collagen and elastin, helping skin to look and feel healthier. SkinPen® needles cycle at more than 100 stamps/second, potentially creating more than 1600 microchannels per second when moving the SkinPen®.

What areas of the skin can be treated?

SkinPen’s® variable needle depth allows for maximum versatility, making it safe and effective to use on many parts of the body, including the face, neck and décolletage.

How is microneedling performed?

Microneedling can be performed using SkinPen®, a medical-grade, state-of-the-art microneedling tool available only through medical professionals. The treatment typically takes around 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the size and number of areas treated.

Is there downtime after microneedling?

The total healing time depends on each individual. Most patients have some slight swelling and redness/pinkness (like a sunburn) for a couple of days following the microneedling procedure. Some people may see their skin return to normal in about 24 hours.

What can I expect during treatment?

A topical anesthetic is applied prior to treatment. Generally, patients report feeling just the slight vibration of the SkinPen® during the treatment.

What is the cost of Microneedling?

The cost will vary on the number of areas treated ( face, neck and chest) along with the number of treatments. The investment of one treatment is $225 and $100 for an additional area during the scheduled treatment time. For patients wanting more than one treatment a package of 3 is available for $625

How many treatments are recommended?

The number of procedures required will be based upon your individual procedure goals and the overall health of your skin. Most patients receive a series of three procedures spaced about four weeks apart for an increase of over 433% in Type I collagen and 230% in elastin.

When will I see results?

The natural repair process of your own skin continues to progress through the course of several weeks. Damage that has occurred over an extensive period of time won’t disappear immediately. You may not see the final result for up to six months following your final session. Individual results will also vary.

What is the downtime?

For most, there is virtually no down time., however, it will depend on the patient’s skin and how well it tolerates the treatment. Many patients are very red/pink after the treatment which may feel similar to a sunburn. This typical ranges between one to three days. During the first 24hours, it is recommended that you avoid makeup in order to keep the open skin as clean as possible. Patients will most likely notice healthier looking skin as soon as the redness calms down. However, the collagen benefits will continue to become evident in the following weeks. If you are undergoing a treatment series, you may have to wait six months after your last treatment to see the full effects of the microneedling.

Who should NOT have Microneedling wit SkinPen®?

The use of SkinPen® SHOULD NOT be used on patients with active skin cancer, keloid scars, scleroderma, collagen vascular diseases or cardiac abnormalities, a hemorrhagic disorder or haemostatic dysfunction, active bacterial, fungal or viral (i.e. herpes, warts) skin infections in the procedure area(s). This procedure is not intended for transdermal (under the skin) delivery of cosmetics.
